Leaving Laurel

“It all began when one of us was Leaving Laurel.”

For Leaving Laurel, their music is a story of an old friendship that over many years, almost accidentally, blossomed into a musical collaboration.

Birthed in late 2019, American artist Pierce Fulton and Canadian producer Gordon Huntley together as Leaving Laurel have developed a penchant for introspective melodic electronic music. Inspired by their time together in the hills of Laurel Canyon, and from their formative experiments recording into old cassette tape players, the project materialised seemingly out of thin air - something neither of them knew they were looking for.

Chasing the nostalgic sound that came from their first collaborations, the pair finished their debut self-titled album at the start of 2021, just prior to a horrible tragedy.

Pierce passed away in April of 2021 after a tragic struggle with his mental health. The album is dedicated to his memory, and has come to represent much more than two friends making music together in the Laurel Canyon neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

After a period of reflection, Gordon chose to continue the project, honouring Pierce’s legacy while forging a path forward. In the fall of 2021, Leaving Laurel returned to the stage for the first time, with Pierce’s brother Griff joining Gordon for DJ sets - another chapter in a story bigger than any one person.

The next chapter came in 2023 with the release of ’when the quiet comes’, a deeply personal second album that explored themes of grief, healing, and hope.

Now, Leaving Laurel enters a new era: Gordon is carrying the project solo, releasing ’together (we are more)’ in September 2025, with more music on the horizon - a continuing evolution of a project born from love and connection.
