Trance fans around the world have seen Alex Sonata & TheRio grow into melodic dance music mainstays over the last several years.

Once an international collaborative act, Scotland’s Fraser Shaw and Italy’s Riccardo Derio joined forces to officially become a duo in 2020 after releasing music on labels owned and operated by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and more.

In 2021, Alex Sonata & TheRio made their debut on Anjunabeats, as part of the Anjunabeats Rising series. The guy's quickly became a favorite of label heads Above & Beyond, and since then have released multiple top ten-charting singles, from fan favorites ‘Cala Luna’ and ‘Breath Of The Wild’, to the likes of ‘7334’ and ‘Mantra’, which have been consistently supported in Above & Beyond’s live sets.

Having garnered support across the spectrum of today’s trance industry, Fraser and Riccardo are preparing to make a big splash at the end of 2023 and beyond. Off the back of performances at Group Therapy Weekender at the Gorge, Anjunabeats’ Miami Music Week pool party, and more recently, on the Anjunabeats Outdoors and After Dark tours, the guys have become a mainstay, core act for the label.

As such, they were invited to compile and mix the next installment of the Anjunabeats Worldwide series, a mix series that serves as a launchpad for the next big act in the Anjunabeats arena and the wider trance scene. Carrying the torch passed on by the likes of ilan Bluestone, Jason Ross, Oliver Smith, Genix, and Fatum, Alex Sonata & TheRio have delivered a masterclass of a mix, and with Anjunabeats Worldwide launching in Q4 of 2023, the guys are looking ahead to touring North America and beyond over the next 18 months.
